Hello! Welcome to Dontmissmyplate.

Thank you for visiting my website! I'm Maxine, a food blogger, home cook, travel enthusiast, and lover of food and culture. I’m passionate about fusion cuisine, a style of cooking that blends ingredients and techniques from different countries, regions, and traditions.

My approach is influenced by both Southern African and American cooking, shaped by my life experiences and reflected in the diversity of my recipes. I also focus on farm-to-table cooking, using fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced locally whenever possible. I believe food tastes best when it’s in season and close to its origin.

Travel plays a big role in how I cook and create. I love sharing my food adventures, from what I’ve eaten to where to eat, while discovering new flavors, cultures, and techniques that continue to inspire me.

I hope this space feels helpful and inspiring. Whether you're in the mood for something familiar or ready to try something new, you’ll find plenty to explore here. Happy cooking!

Eggspectation - Silver Spring, MD

Great place to go if you want a large, satisfying breakfast or brunch. They have several locations and have been going strong for some time. Try one of the egg (well... almost everything has egg) ‘eggtravaganza’ dishes to get a sense of their style. The Bayou Benedict for inspired by New Orleans food is amazing! Eggspectation also had a wide range of cakes on display I recommend as well.

Rating: 4 star plates 🍽️ 🍽️ 🍽️ 🍽️

Eggspectation as the name suggests focuses on making eggs the star, but they offer a lot of other stuff. You can go at any time of the day, most of the morning dishes are offered all day via their ‘breakfast all day’ policy. Take the family, friends for brunch, or ride solo if you just want a hearty breakfast before you start your day.

Start your day with one of their cappuccinos, why not?

Bayou Benedict

Bayou Benedict

One of their most flavorful dishes that drives inspiration from the Creole and Cajun flares of New Orleans. The magic is in the sauce that goes over the Benedict's, also topped with chorizo, creamy polenta, and shrimp.

Seven layers cake.

Seven layers cake.

Maryland's state dessert the Smith Island Cake is a good start. The seven layers of yellow cake sponge and chocolate fudge icing make for a decadent after brunch dessert to share, and it isn't to sweet either.
